The Council adopted conclusions on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), after the first peaceful transfer of power in the country's history, opening a window of opportunity for stability and inclusive development in the DRC and the region as a whole.
While recognising the primary responsibility of the Arctic states for the development of the region, the Council notes that many of the issues affecting the region are of a global nature and are more effectively addressed through regional or multilateral cooperation. It notes that the EU should continue to make a significant contribution in both regional and multilateral fora which deal with arctic matters.
The Council today adopted conclusions on the Civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Compact reaffirming its commitment to make civilian CSDP more capable, more effective, flexible and responsive, as well as more joined up.
On Monday, 9 December 2019, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, will host the NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, for a bilateral meeting.
The EU High Representative/Vice-President and the NATO Secretary-General will deliver short statements to the press at 17:15 in the European External Action Service, Rond Point Schuman 9A, 1046 Brussels. It will no longer take place at the European Commission’s VIP Corner of the Berlaymont building.
