The European Union congratulates the Ecuadorian people who went to the polls on Sunday for the second round of the presidential elections. The electoral process was peaceful and saw a high turnout reflecting the strong commitment of Ecuadorian people to democracy. Preliminary results show a comfortable victory of Guillermo Lasso. The EU looks forward to working with the new elected President.
The European Union welcomes the release of the second report of the Investigation and Identification Team to the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and to the Secretary General of the United Nations on 12 April 2020.
The Council today decided to extend its restrictive measures responding to serious human rights violations in Iran until 13 April 2022. These measures consist of a travel ban and an asset freeze, and a ban on exports to Iran of equipment which might be used for internal repression and of equipment for monitoring telecommunications. In addition, EU citizens and companies are forbidden from making funds available to the listed individuals and entities.
