The Somali education authorities with financial support from the European Union have this week administered the end of secondary school examinations to 33,000 students marking unprecedented subscription to standardized and centralized country-wide examinations. An additional 26,000 pupils also sat for the end of primary school examinations same week. This high turn up for a government sanctioned examinations by Somali pupils and students signals a positive step towards restoration of a government controlled and regulated education services.

I am pleased to be here today in Tirana at the fourth edition of Terra Madre Balkans, where hundreds of participants and delegates representing the "food community" (small food producers, academics, institutions, civil society) from 12 countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, The Republic of Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Italy and Albania) gather every two years since 2010.

 

High Representative Federica Mogherini today called on Israel, the Palestinians and the international community to redouble efforts to revive the Middle East Peace Process.

Speaking in Paris at the Ministerial Conference on the MEPP, Mogherini insisted that the proliferation of conflicts in the region made it more urgent than ever to solve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

G7 2016 Ise-Shima, Japan Summit

On 26-27 May, the EU attended the G7 Summit hosted by Japan. The summit focused on the global economy, foreign policy and the migration and refugee crisis. In the margins of the summit the EU, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement on the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement known as the Free Trade Agreement.
