1. Foreign Ministers of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to counter ISIL/Da’esh met today in Rome at the invitation of Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni to take stock of the Coalition’s work and to accelerate our unified efforts to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL/Da’esh, dismantle its networks, and counter its global ambitions. The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Gentiloni and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Humanitarian needs are still high in Ukraine, especially in villages and towns close to the contact line where fighting has taken place until recently. Since autumn 2015, aid has been finally reaching those in need in these areas. Thanks also to EU-funded assistance, Svetlodarsk – a town near the contact line – is slowly starting to come back to life.  

 

Representative Federica Mogherini will focus strongly this week on international work to solve the crisis in Syria and Iraq and the fight against Da’esh.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, she will be in Rome to take part in the third ministerial meeting of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to counter Da'esh. The meeting will provide an opportunity for Global Coalition partners to assess recent developments, in particular in Sinjar and Ramadi in Iraq, and to chart the course for the Coalition's response to the challenges that lie ahead.

Dans cette 5ème édition de notre Lettre d'information, nous avons essayé de résumer les principales activités de l'Union Européenne à Djibouti ces derniers mois. En plus de notre travail habituel sur les projets de coopération, nous avons abordé de nouveaux domaines, comme les conséquences du changement climatique dans le contexte de la COP21 qui a eu lieu en décembre à Paris, et comme la question de l'important accroissement du flux migratoire vers les pays de l'Union Européenne.

Le Trust Fund est un outil de développement qui met en commun des ressources provenant de différents bailleurs de fonds afin de permettre une réponse rapide, flexible et collective de l'UE face aux différentes dimensions d'une situation d'urgence.

La Ministre de l'environnement Catherine McKenna s'est jointe à l'Ambassadeur de l'Union européenne Marie-Anne Coninsx pour la présentation officielle de la sculpture de glace marquant les 40 ans d'amitié entre l'UE et le Canada.
