The Informal meeting of EU Defence Ministers in the capital of Latvia was particularly important given the deteriorating security situation at the EU borders and in view of the European Council next June. The Ministers agreed that Heads of States and Government will need to address current security and defence concerns and open a revision of the European Security strategy.

According to reports, the Iranian authorities are about to execute Mr Saman Naseem, who was apparently a minor at the time of the crime for which he has been convicted.  
We call on the Iranian authorities to abide by international human rights law, under which the execution of juvenile offenders is a violation of international minimum standards, and not to carry out the execution of Mr Naseem or any other juvenile offender.


Selon diverses sources, les autorités iraniennes sont sur le point d’exécuter M. Saman Naseen, qui était apparemment mineur au moment des faits pour lesquels il a été condamné. 

Nous appelons les autorités iraniennes à respecter le droit international relatif aux droits de l’homme, en vertu duquel l’exécution de délinquants mineurs est une violation des normes minimales internationales, et à ne pas procéder à l’exécution de M. Naseen ni de tout autre délinquant mineur.


Federica Mogherini, haute représentante de l'Union pour les affaires étrangères et la politique de sécurité et vice-présidente de la Commission européenne, se rendra en Bosnie-Herzégovine le lundi 23 février, au moment où le pays s'apprête à faire un pas de plus sur le chemin de son intégration dans l'UE. 


The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday 23rd February, as the country prepares to take a step forward on its EU integration path.


The actions by the Russia-backed separatists in Debaltseve are a clear violation of the ceasefire. The separatists must stop all military activities. Russia and the separatists have to immediately and fully implement the commitments agreed to in Minsk, in line with yesterday's UN Security Council resolution, starting with the respect of the ceasefire and the withdrawal of all heavy weapons.
