The presidential elections on 25 April 2015 went off peacefully, confirming the Togolese people's commitment to democracy.

The EU calls on all stakeholders to maintain efforts to ensure that the electoral process continues to be peaceful and transparent.


Les affrontements violents enregistrés depuis hier, causant plusieurs morts et blessés, démontrent combien la paix est encore fragile au Burundi.  La décision du parti CNDD-FDD de nommer le Président Pierre Nkurunziza candidat aux élections présidentielles 2015 est au centre des préoccupations.  L'UE appelle le Président à aborder cette question dans un esprit de réconciliation, dans l'intérêt du pays et en vue d'une solution respectueuse des accords d'Arusha. 



The violent clashes that have been occurring since yesterday, leading to a number of dead and injured, show that peace is by no means yet assured in Burundi.

The EU stands ready to support him immediately in his efforts to reach an expeditious cessation of violence and to create the conditions for the resumption of inclusive political negotiations amongst Yemeni parties to provide a sustainable settlement to the current crisis.

I spoke today to Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin ahead of tomorrow's summit between the European Union and Ukraine in Kyiv.

We discussed the issues on the agenda, including the ongoing reform process as well as the situation in eastern Ukraine.

The need for a common effort to address the issue of migration, from tackling root causes to facing the emergencies, is at the core of a series of meetings and contacts that the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Federica Mogherini, has planned following the Special European Council on migration on 23 April.
