Canada is known for its low unemployment rate and major labour shortages. With over 400,000 work permits issued in 2019, Canada’s first response to this challenge is immigration. CETA can contribute to filling Canada’s skills shortages by offering several alternatives to facilitate labour mobility and skills transfer between the EU and Canada.

Today at the Foreign Affairs Council with the Ministers of Development, we discussed a very pressing topic: the issue of debt.

Many countries already facing a difficult situation, with unsustainable debt levels, suffer from the worsening effect by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the middle-income countries that now face risks of debt distress.
