The European Union is committed to preventing international trade in minerals from intensifying or perpetuating conflict, with an aim to stop profits from trading minerals being used to fund armed conflicts. Throughout 2018 the EU holds the chairmanship of the Kimberley Process, aimed to ensure sustainable and conflict-free trade in diamonds.

The European Commission and High Representative’s 2013 Cyber Security Strategy was the EU’s first comprehensive policy document in this area.

2015 was a historic year for multilateralism and for sustainable development seeing the adoption in September of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the successful conclusion of the 21 Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21) with an agreement on a multilateral legal framework.

Science cooperation is a fantastic way to developing links of all kinds (human, political, business oriented…), and maintaining them when other kinds of direct relations are difficult (cf. Iran).

On the occasion of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban-Treaty's (CTBT) 20th Anniversary, a Ministerial meeting of the Preparatory Commission of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) took place on 13 June 2016 in Vienna.
