Following an invitation from the Independent Electoral Commission of The Gambia, the European Union (EU) has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to observe the Parliamentary Elections, scheduled for 6 April, 2017. This will be the first fully-fledged EU EOM ever deployed to The Gambia.

Election observation gives the opportunity to assess an electoral process according to international standards. The EU is a leading global player in providing and financing electoral assistance complementary to election observation.

Upon the invitation of a foreign country organising democratic elections, the EU can decide to deploy an Election Observation Mission to the country's elections in consultation with the European Parliament and Member States.

Following an invitation from the Independent Electoral Commission of The Gambia, the European Union (EU) has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to observe the Parliamentary Elections, scheduled for 6 April, 2017. The EU EOM is led by Mr. Miroslav Poche, a member of the European Parliament from the Czech Republic. This will be the first fully-fledged EU EOM ever deployed to The Gambia.

Each EU missions works in the framework of a comprehensive approach. The mission works in agreement and coordination with the EU Delegations in the same area and in the framework of EU regional policies.

Election observation is a vital EU activity aiming to promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law worldwide.

L'Union européenne soutient les efforts d'appui aux sinistrés du gouvernement, des autorités locales, et de tous les acteurs humanitaires.
