On Friday 14 April, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, received Rt Hon Winston Peters, New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs in Brussels.

This was the first meeting between the two counterparts. Ahead of it, Mr Peters said, “Our shared values and commitment to the global rules-based system make the EU an important partner for New Zealand in today’s increasingly uncertain world”.

On an official visit to Albania, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini acclaimed a "collective acknowledgement" of the country's progress towards EU standards and eventual membership, and called for a "collective responsibility" from the leaders, institutions and people of Albania for continued reforms. The European Commission on 17 April recommended opening EU accession negotiations with Albania.

The EU Delegation to NZ is pleased to work with the Victoria University of Wellington and UN Association on the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, to take place on 23 April. The Summit is a cross-sectoral collaboration on efforts to achieve the #SDGs by 2030, also known as Agenda 2030. The #SDGs are universally applicable to all countries and the EU is committed to be a frontrunner in implementing them.

The EU-Fiji University Quiz Challenge was hosted for the first time in 2017 as part of the Europe Day celebrations in Fiji. The quiz is fast becoming very popular amongst university students and Fijians. This year's quiz is organised in partnership with the University of the South Pacific, Fiji National University and University of Fiji. The three universities will be tested on their knowledge on European history, EU-Fiji and Pacific Cooperation, COP23, Oceans Conference, etc
