The High representative Federica Mogherini reported yesterday to the European Council on the steps the Eu has already taken on the external aspects of the refugee crisis, and on the crises in Syria and Libya. Meeting into the early hours of Friday morning, European Union leaders agreed on measures to manage the flows of migrants and refugees, and to tackle the root causes of the issue.

The preparation of the Valletta summit with our African friends is proceeding well. Yesterday there was the second preparatory meeting and I will be in Addis Ababa meeting the African Union on Monday to continue preparations.

Speaking before the summit, High Representative Mogherini said: “I have to say implementation of the external steps of the agenda on migration is going rather well.”
