Piracy in the Western Indian Ocean has been a growing threat to security, international shipping and development since the mid-2000s.

The Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) is the EU's financial instrument to respond quickly and flexibly to conflicts and crisis. IcSP provides funding for short and mid-term actions on conflict prevention, crisis response and peacebuilding around the world, and longer term-assistance to projects linked to global and trans-regional threats.

The terrorist threat is increasingly diverse and geographically diffused. It remains significant, complex, and very unpredictable.

The EU subscribes to and promotes the highest level of nuclear safety across the globe. We work in bilateral and regional settings and with relevant multilateral organisations to ensure the continuous improvement of nuclear safety and effective nuclear safeguards. Outreach in this area is funded by a dedicated financial instrument established under the EURATOM Treaty.

The EU is committed to a balanced, comprehensive and integrated policy on drugs. It prioritizes equally the health and wellbeing of the citizens and countering drug-related crime. It strives to provide World-wide alternatives for income in drugs-producing countries and to control the fastly appearing new substances and the abuse of Internet for trade and distribution of drugs.
