Once again Turkey has suffered a terrorist attack in Istanbul today, killing a number of people, several of whom were police officers, and injuring many others in a bomb attack targeting a police vehicle. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of all those killed today and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
As the European Union, we reiterate our continuing solidarity to Turkey, its government and its people and reaffirm our commitment to work closely together to fight the global threat of terrorism.
Under the rubric ‘prepare today, survive tomorrow’, UNDP’s EU-BOMNAF project, in collaboration with UNDP’s JICA-BMP project, recently implemented a joint Disaster Risk Management Training programme in Badakhshan. Supported by the project’s Disaster Risk Management Partner, ‘Rescue Global’, the activity was successfully delivered at the key Border Crossing Point (BCP) of Tem-Shegnan, on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border, from Mon 30 May to Fri 3 Jun 2016. The event was attended by 20 Afghan civilians, 45 Afghanistan Border Police (ABP) and 15 Tajikistan Border Force (TBF) Officers.
Violent attacks on 5th June in the city of Aktobe in Kazakhstan caused several casualties. The European Union extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to the wounded.
Dushanbe, 07 June 2016 - UNDP Dushanbe’s EU-BOMNAF Project reports that we have today completed a training course in the maintenance and repair of Polaris quad bikes (All-terrain vehicles or ATV) for twelve of our Afghan Border Police (ABP) beneficiaries.
