Tuesday, November 8, 2016 - Sulaimani (KRG), Iraq: A 2-day conference (October 30th and 31st) brought together national and international experts to explore new approaches to monitor, protect and preserve the cultural heritage of all Iraq. This was the first time that such a conference has been held in Iraq covering this topic, and we hope it will not be the last.

On 12 November, the Anti-Corruption Justice Centre (ACJC) held its first two trials. The trials were open to the public, and were also attended and monitored by representatives from civil society, media, and national and international observers.

On 11 August 2016, the Republic of Zambia held its sixth general elections since the reintroduction of multi-party democracy in late 1990. Following an invitation from the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) was present in Zambia from 29 June to 12 September 2016. The Mission was led by Chief Observer Cécile Kyenge, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). In total, the EU EOM deployed across the country 124 observers
from the 28 EU Member States, as well as from Norway and Canada, to assess the entire electoral process in accordance with international and regional commitments for genuine and transparent elections and the laws of Zambia.

The European Union and its Member States in Kabul work actively with the Afghan government on its budget execution through the Public Financial Management (PFM) reform process. The past two years have seen encouraging progress.

The recent Brussels Conference on Afghanistan underscored the international community's confidence in the Government's ability to further improve its budget execution. In this context, in accordance with the constitution, Parliament has an important role to play.

The Ambassador of the European Union to Mongolia Hans Dietmar Schweisgut will lead a group of over 20 ambassadors and senior diplomats from EU member states for their annual meeting with the Mongolian Government in Ulaanbaatar. Those based in Beijing and accredited to Mongolia will join the seven EU Member States ambassadors resident in Ulaanbaatar.
