The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) today handed over a consignment of seeds and fertilizer to The Gambian government for onward distribution amongst 12,000 severely food insecure farmers.
"It is very difficult to combine a young child and a full-time job. I fully understand why some young mothers feel discouraged to work full time or to take any additional, more challenging responsibilities. Luckily, our society and the employers have become more tolerant and flexible, and from year to year it becomes easier to combine a job and a family life. There is definitely a positive tendency and I hope it will continue."
UK-based researchers got the highest number of grants under the latest round of the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grants scheme. It supports established scientists with long-term funding for ground-breaking and high-risk projects. This follows on success in January when UK-based teams were again top of the ERC league for the Proof of Concept grants, which support bringing innovative ideas to market.
