"The terrorist attacks on two churches in Lahore this morning, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and scores of seriously injured, is another instance of violence aimed at innocent victims. Those responsible for the attacks must be brought to justice. It is essential that Pakistani authorities take swift action against all groups preaching hate and sowing division within society. Freedom of religion or belief is a central tenet of democratic societies. 


On Monday 16 March, as part of the ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will host a meeting in Brussels with the Foreign Ministers of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmeier, of France, Laurent Fabius, of Great Britain, Philip Hammond, and of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Ahead of this meeting HRVP Federica Mogherini will meet bilaterally with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif at 17:15.

President of the European Parliament Mr. Martin Schulz visits China

On 15-18 March 2015 the President of the European Parliament Mr. Martin Schulz visited China. The program included: meetings with H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, the President of China, H.E. Mr. Yang Jiechi, the State Councillor of China, H.E. Mr. Zhang Dejiang, the Chairman of the National People's Congress, as well as the press conference and speech at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Mr. Schulz also visited Tianjin.



Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, will visit Havana on 23 and 24 March. This is the first visit of a European Union High Representative to Cuba and comes at a crucial time for the negotiations between the EU and Cuba. She will discuss with her Cuban interlocutors developments in the country and perspectives for EU-Cuba cooperation.


Mme Federica Mogherini, haute représentante de l'Union pour les affaires étrangères et la politique de sécurité et vice-présidente de la Commission européenne, se rendra à La Havane les 23 et 24 mars. Il s'agit de la première visite d'un haut représentant de l'Union européenne à Cuba, qui intervient à un moment crucial pour les négociations entre l'UE et Cuba. La haute représentante s'entretiendra avec ses interlocuteurs cubains de l'évolution de la situation dans le pays et des perspectives de coopération entre les deux parties.


Répondant sans attendre à la désolation semée à Vanuatu par le cyclone tropical Pam, la Commission européenne a débloqué une première enveloppe de 1 million d'euros pour contribuer aux opérations de secours d'urgence. La Commission européenne dépêche aussi deux experts qui auront pour tâche d'évaluer les besoins humanitaires et de se mettre en contact avec les organisations partenaires travaillant sur le terrain.


In its immediate response to the devastation caused by the tropical cyclone Pam in Vanuatu, the European Commission is making available an initial €1 million to help in the emergency relief efforts. The European Commission is also sending two experts to assess the humanitarian needs and liaise with partner organisations operating on the ground.
