The 6th edition of the High Level Dialogue on Human Rights between the European Union and Mexico was held on 20 and 21 June in Brussels. The EU side was co-chaired by the EU Special Representative on Human Rights, Stavros Lambrinidis and the Director for Strategic Communication, Parliamentary Affairs and General Affairs, Silvio Gonzato.

The EU Delegation and the Heads of Missions of EU Member States in Zambia wish to inform that, in response to an invitation from the Zambian Authorities, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy has decided to deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) to Zambia to observe the forthcoming general elections on 11 August.

The political dialogue between Nigeria and the EU followed the 2004 initiative of the Irish Presidency of the EU. Since then, the successive EU Presidencies, through the Heads of Mission, have continued to conduct high level contacts and discussions with the Nigerian Authorities.

The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) enables the Union to take a leading role in peace-keeping operations, conflict prevention and in the strengthening of the international security. It is an integral part of the EU's comprehensive approach towards crisis management, drawing on civilian and military assets.

Each EU mission is based on a legal agreement. The decisions of deployment and management of the mission are taken by the EU countries during the Foreign Affair Council.

On 10 April 2010, the European Union launched a military training mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) in order to contribute to strengthening the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the institutions of Somalia. This support is part of the EU's comprehensive engagement in Somalia, which aims to support stabilising the country and to respond to the needs of the Somali people.
