Following the escalation of violence by the Myanmar military against peaceful protesters over the weekend, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, initiated a phone call with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi. The call took place the day ahead of an informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

(Geneva, EAC Arusha, Tanzania) – Stakeholders from across the East African Community (EAC) region and Europe gathered online today to mark the beginning of the MARKUP - EAC Invest event.

The European Commission is allocating €95 million in humanitarian support to address the most pressing needs of people in Yemen amid record highs of child malnutrition, an imminent threat of famine and renewed fighting. More than 2 million children as well as over 1 million pregnant women and mothers are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2021, while escalating hostilities are forcing thousands of families to leave their households. The new funding was announced by the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, at the high-level pledging event for Yemen on 1 March co-hosted by the United Nations, Sweden and Switzerland.


Five Sahel countries work together to address common security challenges. The EU's Regional Advisory and Coordination Cell (RACC), a network of European experts, supports the security and defence cooperation of these five “G5 Sahel” countries’ by initiating and facilitating joint regional activities. The civilian and military CSDP Missions deployed in Mali and Niger play the central role in the concrete implementation of these activities.
