Tuesday 06 February, 2018; Dar es Salaam: The Head of Delegation of the European Union to Tanzanian and the East African Community, H.E. Roeland van de Geer and the Deputy Country Director, Plan International Tanzania Ms. Gwynneth Wong hosted a joint event to commemorate the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation.

Female Genital Mutilation, or FGM, horrifically violates the human rights, dignity and physical integrity of girls and women. In a Joint Statement on the occasion of the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, EU leaders condemn the ongoing practice of FGM in Europe and around the world, and outline the EU's ongoing actions and commitment to eradicate the practice.

The development of cultural and rural tourism options is envisaged to render the protection of cultural heritage economically viable and attractive to communities.
