Relations between the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Guinea go back over 40 years. Today, the framework for these relations is defined by the June 2000 Cotonou Agreement, concerning political and economic issues, trade, development co-operation, dialogue with civil society and humanitarian aid.

Inició sus actividades en 1997 como Delegación de la Comisión Europea tras la firma de los Acuerdos de Paz que propiciaron la intensificación de las acciones de cooperación entre Guatemala y la Unión Europea. A partir del 1 de diciembre del 2009 pasó a ser la Delegación de la Unión Europea en Guatemala.

Guatemala mantiene con la Unión Europea relaciones muy extensas que abarcan el diálogo político, un amplio programa de cooperación y un régimen comercial favorable. Además, la UE ha sido un actor importante en apoyo de la aplicación de los Acuerdos de Paz.

La contribución de la UE a Guatemala para el período 2014-2020 asciende a 166.8 millones de euros. Los principales sectores de cooperación son: la seguridad alimentaria, la resolución de conflictos, la paz y la seguridad y la competitividad.
