The 9th Subcommittee meeting on Justice, Freedom and Security between the EU and Albania took place on 28 April in Brussels. Representatives from the European Commission and the Albanian authorities discussed the most recent developments in the area of rule of law. The meeting was co-chaired by Ms Michela Matuella, Head of Unit for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Directorate General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission, and Ms Eralda Çani, Deputy Minister of European Integration, Ministry of European Integration.
EU ministers began their meeting with discussions on Turkey: “We will assess with the ministers the state of play of developments inside the country and in our relations. I think we need a serious in-depth, frank and serene discussion among the Member States. And obviously the Foreign Minister of Turkey [Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu] will join us this afternoon and I will have a bilateral meeting with him later tonight,” Mogherini told the media ahead of the meeting.

The EU launched a EUR 6 million project today with the name ‘Support to Police Reform in Ukraine’ (SPRU), which will strengthen community policing in 20 police districts in mid-sized towns in the Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv regions and support the reform of public order policing in Ukraine. It builds on activities already delivered by the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine (EUAM) and will be implemented – over 18 months – by the Swedish police and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), with the support of EUAM.
