We, the Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the High Representative of the European Union, have gathered in Hiroshima, Japan on April 10-11 to address a number of major international issues that impact global peace, security and prosperity.

Federica Mogherini and the G7 Foreign Ministers met in Hiroshima at the weekend to discuss international issues such as countering terrorism and violent extremism, the refugee crisis, Syria, Libya, events in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Also on the agenda was maritime security, cyber issues, disarmament and non-proliferation, Africa, and Asian affairs.

Participants from around the world attended the conference under the #EU4humanRights campaign on Ageing: Rights for Empowerment. Discussing the ways and means to effectively empower older persons, they called for concrete action.

We emphasize the importance of our meeting in Hiroshima seventy one years after World War II, which unleashed unprecedented horror upon the world. The people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki experienced immense devastation and human suffering as a consequence of the atomic bombings and have rebuilt their cities so impressively.

Let me start by a sincere thank you for inviting me to address you today, in the heart of ASEAN. Some of you will certainly remember the speech delivered by the then President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy in November 2014 in this very same room. I myself travelled several times to your region last year and my intention is to keep coming back, like today, to invest in our partnership and develop it further. That is my firm - personal and political - commitment.

La Misión de Observación Electoral de la Unión Europea en Perú está observando la jornada electoral con un contingente de casi 100 observadores. La Misión ha observado la apertura de las mesas electorales y las operaciones de voto en 162 mesas hasta este momento.


La Misión constata que la jornada electoral ha transcurrido hasta ahora en un ambiente general de tranquilidad. Sin embargo, los equipos de observadores europeos de largo plazo desplazados en el país informan de una situación generalizada de mesas que han abierto con más de una hora de retraso.
