A new chapter began for our Military Erasmus initiative, as the Austrian Theresan Military Academy, the Open University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia signed two Erasmus+ agreements. The ceremony was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus and the European Security and Defence College.

The ESDC and the Italian Centre for Higher Defence Studies (CASD) in Rome introduced 70 participants – including members of the military and police forces, as well as civilian experts – to the 'Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management' course. Brussels experts from the Crisis Management and Planning Directorate (CMPD), Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC) and European Security and Defence College (ESDC) provided training for future participants in Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions and operations.

With these words, the Head of the ESDC, Mr Dirk Dubois, opened the first High-Level Seminar on CSDP between the European Union, 11 countries from Latin America and the regional organisation UNASUR. The seminar took place between 28 November and 2 December 2016. Almost the very same words were repeated by the Deputy Secretary General of the EEAS, Mr Pedro Serrano, during his keynote speech. Over the course of the week, it became the main message among the 40 high-level participants from third countries and the 20 representatives from EU Member States and institutions.
