The Forest Monitoring Portal of the University of PNG collects satellite imagery of forests, maps recent areas of clearing, logging and fire. These maps will be uploaded onto a public website. A fire watch website is already online that shows the location of forest fires, updated in real time. The project is a major advance in forest governance, allowing public viewing of activities in forests.

Dr. Phil Shearman, Project Co-ordinator

Economic growth, investments, climate change and migration were the main issues discussed today by EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in the official meetings she had during her first official visit in Ethiopia, on the 40th Anniversary of EU-Ethiopia relations. The High Representative met the Ethiopian Prime minister, Haile Mariam Dessalegn, and the Ethiopian Foreign minister, Tedros Adrhanom Ghebreyesus. Federica Mogherini paid a visit to the African Union headquarters, where she held a long conversation with Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and a speech in front of the AU ambassadors. Her first public engagement, in the morning, was a visit to the EU-funded Wise project, in support of migrants forced to return.
