In Kosovo, an EU rural grant scheme is allowing a meat processing company to bring its
operations into line with the highest international standards, so that it can sell its products
more widely abroad – and can compete better at home against imports.

From the sixties to the eighties, thousands of radioactive lightning rods (lightning conductors)
were installed in the former Yugoslavia. This was under the mistaken assumption that the
higher energy of gamma emitters would make the rods work better.

Despite progress in recent years, several air quality standards are still widely exceeded in the
European Union’s most densely populated areas, especially from pollutants such as particulate
matter, ground-level ozone, and nitrogen dioxide.

helping municipalities in Montenegro to switch to new operating methods in tune with EU

Vulnerable young people need careful attention, and in Montenegro the EU has been helping
to prevent separation of children and families, and supporting community-based care and
the provision of better homes.
