On 22 November, the civilian European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Iraq took up its work in Baghdad, only one month after EU Foreign Ministers decided to establish the mission to support the Iraqi Government in its Security Sector Reform.

On 22 November, the civilian European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Iraq took up its work in Baghdad, only one month after EU Foreign Ministers decided to establish the mission to support the Iraqi Government in its Security Sector Reform.

The Mission was established on 16 October 2017 by the Council of the European Union in response to a request from the Iraqi Government for the EU to provide advice and assistance on the implementation of civilian aspects of the National Security Strategy.

The Mission deployed to Baghdad on 17 November 2017.

The Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, the European Union’s (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development met on 10 November 2017 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the 13th EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting.
