20/07/2021 – HR/VP Blog – Last week, I visited Tashkent to take part in the Central-South Asia Connectivity Conference. This event brought together high-level participants from the region and beyond to discuss regional connectivity and security issues, as well as the situation in Afghanistan. The aim of the conference was to explore how joint efforts can promote stability, security and prosperity in a region of growing strategic importance for the EU.

The deployment of an election observation mission to Zambia for the fifth time, reflects the EU’s long-standing commitment to supporting the country’s democratisation and reconciliation process,” said Maria Arena, Chief Observer and Member of the European Parliament from Belgium during a press conference today, launching the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM).

The EU deployed the mission upon an invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Zambia to observe the 12 August general elections.

A terrorist attack in a busy market in Sadr City in Eastern Baghdad yesterday took numerous lives and injured many. The EU condemns in the strongest possible terms this attack, which was claimed by Da’esh and took place on the eve of the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha.

We express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
