Speaking at the Global Citizen Live event, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Union is pledging €140 million to support research in sustainable food systems and tackle food hunger via CGIAR, formerly also known as Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, and a further €25 million for Education Cannot Wait, a global fund for the education of children in emergencies and protracted crises, in particular girls, children with disabilities, minorities and other marginalized children.

Viola von Cramon arrived in the Baghdad International Zone a little past midnight after a long trip from Europe. A few hours and an early morning briefing later, she is already in the car for the first meeting. It is the beginning of four intense days with back-to-back meetings and briefings in Baghdad and Erbil as well as two press conferences. The German member of the European Parliament visited Iraq not as a politician but as the Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM), currently deployed in Iraq to observe the 10 October parliamentary elections.

The closing ceremony of the European Union funded EU Action Against Drugs and Organised Crime (EU-ACT) Project is being held today at the Residence of the Ambassador of the European Union. This project was conceived in response to the growing problems of drug trafficking and abuse globally and has been implemented in Tanzania from 2017 until September 2021. The implementing partners on the EU side have been the Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP), the Italian Carabinieri, the UK National Crime Agency and the Spanish Ministry of Interior.

A new trade facilitation project was launched yesterday by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to streamline customs clearance processes in the Pacific region and to generate efficiencies facilitating international trade.
