The European Union jointly with the Government of Puntland launched the second phase of the Puntland Education Sector Support Programme. The Waxbarashadu Waa Iftiin (Education is Light) phase II programme launched today is implemented by a consortium of NGOs comprising CARE, Save the Children, ADRA and VU Amsterdam University, and in close coordination with the Ministry of Education, Puntland.
The February meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council saw discussions on Syria, an action plan on climate being adopted and the lifting of most of the restrictive measure on Belarus.
Speaking to the press after the meeting EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said she debriefed the EU Foreign Ministers on the work of the International Syria Support Group in Munich last week. She stressed that there was "complete unity" that all sides must stick to their commitments made just four days ago. She said the setbacks were not a reason to change policy.
Twenty years ago the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the most violent conflicts in modern European history. Europe saw warfare that had not been seen since the end of the World War Two. Today, Monday 15 February, saw the same country submit its application for EU membership.
