Intervention de Mme Delphine Delieux,

Chargé d'affaires ai de l'Union européenne

22-24 août 2016

Excellence, Monsieur le Ministre du Cadre de vie,

On 17 August, EUAM Ukraine handed over six interview rooms to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) – tailor-made facilities that will allow NABU to interview witnesses or suspects in the course of criminal proceedings.

Last night an explosion hit women, men, children celebrating a wedding party in the city of Gaziantep. More than fifty lives have been lost and many are injured. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to all injured.

Turkey has been dramatically targeted once again, and in a city - Gaziantep - that is a symbol of the pain caused to thousands of people from the conflict in Syria. The suffering of all the people hit by war, and terror, is our suffering.

Today's twin explosions in Galkayo in Northern Somalia have caused a high number of casualties of both civilians and security personnel. Our thoughts go to the families of the victims and to all Somali people. We also commend the quick reaction of Puntland security forces.

The EU remains strongly committed to cooperate to the building of legitimate institutions and a Somali owned security sector to combat terrorism. This is key for Somalia's constructive development and the security of the region.

The release on parole of the prominent Kazakh activist Vladimir Kozlov, who was imprisoned following the Zhanaozen events of 2011, is positive news.

Further steps should now follow, leading to the full rehabilitation and release of all those civil society activists currently detained or under restriction of movement in Kazakhstan, in line with the country's international commitments.
