Les mines blessent des centaines de personnes chaque année en Colombie et constituent un défi majeur pour l'établissement d'un processus de pacification crédible et pour l'avenir du pays.

Mines injured hundreds every year in Colombia and create a major challenge to credible peace process and the future of the country.


Executive orders for the execution of 80 persons have recently been announced in Iraq, with further possible execution orders to follow. This is a regrettable development as, following the formation of a new Government in Iraq in 2014, a review of all pending cases was undertaken. This review and a possible permanent suspension of all executions had been seen as a positive signal by the EU, in line with its principled opposition to the use of the death penalty.


Les autorités iraquiennes ont récemment donné l'ordre d'exécuter 80 personnes et annoncé que d'autres exécutions pourraient suivre. Il s'agit là d'une évolution regrettable alors qu'après la formation d'un nouveau gouvernement dans le pays en 2014, toutes les affaires pendantes avaient fait l'objet d'une révision. Cette révision, qui avait laissé entrevoir la perspective d'une suspension permanente de toutes les exécutions, avait été considérée comme un signal positif par l'UE, opposée, par principe, au recours à la peine de mort.

High Representative Federica Mogherini and Dutch Minister of Defence Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert co-chaired on Friday the informal meeting of Defence Ministers in Amsterdam. The event, organized  by the Netherlands EU presidency, was a fruitful occasion to take stock on the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), with an eye on the ongoing military missions and operations in in the Horn of Africa, the Central African Republic and the Sahel region. The situation in Libya and Afghanistan were also part of the discussion.
