European Union Head of Delegation to Uganda, H.E Ambassador Kristian Schmidt joined by fellow diplomats from Ireland, UK, Belgium, Poland and the U.S, together with Uganda State Minister for Internal Affairs and the Deputy Mufti of Uganda to launch the 4.3m Euro (Shs 16.4 billion) EU funded project promoting social cohesion and stability in Uganda's slum populations on October 20, 2016. The project is part of the EU Trust Fund for Africa and is implemented in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration in Uganda, Action For Fundamental Change and Development and the Government of Uganda.

Le Conseil a fait le point sur les préparatifs de la réunion des ministres des affaires étrangères CELAC-UE qui se tiendra les 25 et 26 octobre 2016 à Saint-Domingue et sera consacrée à l'avenir du partenariat birégional. Le Conseil a adopté le projet d'ordre du jour, qui prévoit des discussions sur la manière de renforcer le dialogue birégional et d'approfondir les relations mutuelles, une évaluation des programmes et mesures adoptés lors des sommets, des discussions sur le financement du développement et sur le changement climatique et un point spécifique consacré à la Fondation Union européenne -Amérique latine et Caraïbes (Fondation UE-ALC).

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, the Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas and the Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipilä have today witnessed the signing of a €187 million investment in the Balticconnector – the first gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia. This gas interconnector will end the energy isolation of Finland which is largely dependent on a single supplier. When the gas starts flowing by 2020, this project will unite the Eastern Baltic Sea region with the rest of the EU energy market.

To mark the World Day against the Death Penalty, the EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva, CinéONU, Amnesty International and the Geneva Film Festival on Human Rights (FIFDH) organised on 20 October a thematic film and debate evening. The 2015 British mystery documentary 'The fear of 13' tells a story of Nick Yarris, who spent over 20 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit. The screening was followed by a debate with Mr. Yarris himself, as well as with Ms. Ruth Dreifuss, former President of the Swiss Federation and Member of the International Commission against the Death Penalty. Ms. Manon Schick, Director of Amnesty International Switzerland, moderated the discussion.
