High Representative Federica Mogherini and Dutch Minister of Defence Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert co-chaired on Friday the informal meeting of Defence Ministers in Amsterdam. The government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has notified several United Nations agencies that it intends to launch a 'satellite' later this month.
Any launch by the DPRK using ballistic missile technology would be in clear violation of several UN Security Council Resolutions. It would be a further provocation in the wake of the illegal nuclear test the DPRK conducted on 6 January and yet another unacceptable threat to international peace and security in the region and beyond.
