EU Statement - INS/17/4: Outcome of the tripartite experts meeting on fair recruitment

More than 20,000 visitors attended the 8th European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) which was held in three cities in Indonesia. EHEF 2016 showcased 138 higher education institutions representing 15 European countries. EHEF 2016 was held in Yogyakarta on 2 November, followed by EHEF Jakarta on 5-6 November and EHEF Surabaya on 8 November 2016.

A staggering 1.2 million people have crossed the border from war-torn Syria into neighbouring Lebanon. Without any formal refugee camps, many Syrians in Lebanon have been forced to seek shelter wherever they can find it: in sheds, abandoned buildings, spare rooms and tented settlements. Unable to work, and with their savings long gone, an estimated 70 percent of refugees live below the extreme poverty line. In response, EU Humanitarian Aid and its partners are providing tens of thousands of people with cash that enables them to pay for rent, food, clothing, healthcare and education.

EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah visited Gaza today and met with Ministers of the Palestinian Authority and representatives of Palestinian civil society. The group of more than twenty senior European Diplomats also met with senior UNRWA Officials and visited a school in Beit Hanoun.
