Singapore, 16 November 2016

The European Union Delegation to Singapore in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission, and the Heads of Mission of Norway and Switzerland issue the following statement:

The European Union (EU), Norway and Switzerland call on the Singapore authorities to halt the execution of Nigerian national Mr Chijioke Stephen Obioha and to adopt a moratorium on all executions as a first step towards the abolition of the death penalty.

On Tuesday 15th of November, the Deputy-Minister of Energy and Minerals, Hon. Medard Kalemani, inaugurated in Njombe the upgraded Ikondo-Matembwe mini-grid. This event marked the conclusion of a five year project funded mainly by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) Rural Energy Programme; and implemented by the Italian NGO, CEFA, in collaboration with the Matembwe Village Company Ltd. The initiative, worth EUR 1.8 million (approximately TZS 4.25 billion), has also received financial support from the Rural Energy Agency – REA, and two Italian local administrations, namely the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Emilia Romagna Region.

On 15-17 November 2016, a three day training course for canine officers of border protection agencies of Uzbekistan will be held in Tashkent under the Border Management in Central Asia Programme (BOMCA) funded by the European Union.
