Statement by President Juncker following the attacks in Stockholm

At the invitation of the Joint Operations Center (JOC) in Murray Town, officials from Sierra Leone Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) responsible for maritime affairs and fisheries today joined the World Bank Country Manager, the U.S. Ambassador, and the Charge d'Affaires of the European Union Delegation to tour the JOC and to discuss ways to better cooperate in protecting and developing Sierra Leone’s maritime domain.

Political tensions in Zambia have increased over past weeks and in particular with the events surrounding the arrest of opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema in recent days.

Calm and to refrain from any actions and rhetoric likely to aggravate the situation are much needed.

The Zambian people expect all parties to engage in dialogue to contribute to a peaceful and democratic society and to respect the rule of law.

We regret the parliamentary boycott in Albania and that the opposition has not yet registered to participate in the elections. The political debate should not take place outside, but inside the parliament according to democratic practice. Citizens deserve responsible leadership.

We once again urge all political leaders to act responsibly, with respect for institutions, and pave the way for democratic elections, in line with international standards.
