The actions by the Russia-backed separatists in Debaltseve are a clear violation of the ceasefire. The separatists must stop all military activities. Russia and the separatists have to immediately and fully implement the commitments agreed to in Minsk, in line with yesterday's UN Security Council resolution, starting with the respect of the ceasefire and the withdrawal of all heavy weapons.


I am happy to be here to chair the Defence Minister's meeting today. I will stay only for a while because afterwards I will be flying to Washington for a meeting on extremist violence and counter-terrorism, where I will have also the chance of speaking with Secretary of State Kerry and some of our Arab partners on the situation in Libya, in particular.

A European perspective on foreign and security policy, recent events in Libya, the ceasefire in Ukraine and Europe's relations with Latin America were key issues when EU foreign policy Chief Federica Mogherini visited Spain and Portugal on 16-17 February. It came as part of a pledge she made to travel to all 28 countries in the EU in the first six months of her term in office to discuss the direction of foreign and security policy.

Dans son discours, l’Ambassadeur Coninsx est revenue sur les récents développements économiques et politiques en Europe et a détaillé des bienfaits de l’AECG ainsi que de faire des affaires avec l’UE.


The High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini met yesterday evening in Madrid the Special representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya, Bernardino León.

Mogherini and León discussed the recent dramatic developments and the need to increase the diplomatic work to unite the different Libyan parties in a common effort to face the threat of Da'esh.

They will intensify contacts in these hours to guarantee the appropriate regional and international support to the UN led process.


Mme Federica Mogherini, la haute représentante de l'Union pour les affaires étrangères et vice-présidente de la Commission européenne, a rencontré hier soir à Madrid M. Bernardino León, le représentant spécial du secrétaire général des Nations unies pour la Libye.

Mme Mogherini et M. León ont débattu des bouleversements récents et de la nécessité d’accroître les efforts diplomatiques en vue d'unir les différentes parties en Libye dans un effort commun pour faire face à la menace que représente Daech.
