Thank you for inviting the EU, as a member of the Quartet, to attend this extraordinary Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Despite many other competing political challenges facing the Middle East region, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains crucial – not only for Israelis and Palestinians- but for regional stability.

Mme Federica Mogherini, haute représentante de l'Union pour les affaires étrangères et la politique de sécurité/vice-présidente de la Commission européenne, s'est entretenue aujourd'hui à Bruxelles avec M. Abdul Malak al-Mekhlafi, vice-Premier ministre et ministre des affaires étrangères du Yémen, pour discuter de la situation politique et humanitaire actuelle dans le pays et des perspectives de règlement du conflit.

We have today an important point on the agenda: making sure that all that has been agreed with Turkey is implemented, related to the Joint Action Plan and the refugee crisis, and in particular the need to make it sustainable in the immediate term and in the long run - the protection of the refugees and the management of the flow, with the disruption of the network of traffickers.

 

MD Africa, Koen Vervaeke, accompanied Commissioner Mimica visit to Burkina Faso to bring a message of support to the Burkinabé people following the terrorist attacks of 15th January and also to congratulate newly elected President Kaboré who took office on 29 December following a year of Transition in the country.
