In the opening session of the debate on the return of death penalty in Europe, Mr. José Mendes Bota, First Counsellor, delivered a speech on behalf of the European Union Delegation to the Council of Europe; on the occasion of the European Day against Death Penalty.
The project aims to provide technical and policy advice and support to Government in the development and implementation of their policies and programmes in ways that will accelerate and maximize their impact on rural development, food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture.
The project aims to strengthen the capacity in the five Central Asian countries to deal with the drug phenomenon in the region in a comprehensive, integrative, and sustainable manner. It shall support a joint regional approach, cooperation and coordination among countries, with the purpose of dealing with the phenomenon by expertise exchange and standard/practice approximation and international good practices on drug policies.
The project aims to facilitate concrete and comprehensive implementation of the Joint Plan of Action of Central Asia through assistance in ccordinating the efforts of the states in the region and international and regional organisations.
A delegation of the high-level religious leaders and officials from the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations from Azerbaijan visited EU institutions on September 26-27 September 2017. During an intensive two-day programme the delegation met high level EU officials from the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Parliament (EP), including Mr. Jean-Christophe Belliard, Deputy Secretary-General for political affairs at EEAS, Ms. Mairead McGuinness, First Vice President of the EP and Mr. Sajjad Karim, Member of EP and Chair of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. The delegation also met with officials from DG NEAR, other members of EP, representatives of different religious communities and visited NATO HQ, where NATO partnership and challenges in the Euro Atlantic area were discussed.
The project aims to create a sustainable platform for partnerships and communication between media outlets and civil society activists in order to initiate a dialogue between civil society organisations, local politicians, political associations and media to address key human rights issues in the country.
