On 10 December, the European Union and its Member States celebrate Human Rights Day. As inequality and violations of human rights pose increasing challenges across the world, and conflict continues in countries such as Syria, it is all the more important that we redouble our efforts to defend the rights of all people. This is why this year we join the United Nations in calling upon people to stand up for someone's rights.

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) says Ghana’s closely contested Presidential and Parliamentary elections delivered to the Ghanaian people a generally well-administered and transparent vote, which largely escaped the violence many had feared. However, the EU EOM added the misuse of incumbency, including unequal access to state media, and unaccountable campaign financing were areas Ghana could address in the future.



The European Commission has mobilised €4 million additional emergency assistance to address urgent humanitarian needs in eastern Ukraine, bringing the total EU humanitarian aid in response to the crisis to €26.4 million in 2016.

Європейська Комісія виділила 4 мільйони євро додаткової негайної допомоги, реагуючи на термінові гуманітарні потреби на сході України. Це збільшує загальний обсяг гуманітарної допомоги, яку ЄС надав у 2016 році у відповідь на кризу, до 26,4 мільйонів євро.
