High Representative Federica Mogherini today briefs European Union leaders on three important files on which she has played a leading role in driving forward the EU agenda.

The European Union has partnered with the EBRD since 2012 in implementation of the Advice for Small Business Programme in Egypt. This programme has become a true success – demand for the business development services offered by the Programme is at a constant increase thanks to the high quality of the services provided and in addition due to the vast numbers of small businesses in Egypt.

Offering support to small businesses is a key priority for both the EU and EBRD as they represent the backbone of the economy in Egypt and hold a tremendous potential for strengthening economic resilience. Financing and consultancy services have been provided to 500 enterprises in cooperation with partner banks and micro-finance institutions under the umbrella of the EU/EBRD Small Business Initiative. In addition to financing, the Initiative also provides business advice through local and international experts to help them grow and become catalysts for the local and regional economies. The EBRD started its operations in Egypt in 2012 while the EU/Egypt partnership is anchored on the Association Agreement signed in 2004.
