It is with great sadness that I learnt about the death of former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

An eminent Egyptian diplomat and jurist, Mr Boutros-Ghali made his mark internationally and at the United Nations, when he piloted the UN through challenging times after the end of the cold war.

On 16 February, Head of the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao, Mr Vincent Piket talked about European Union-Macao relations with Commissioner Ye Dabo. Both sides also explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the European Union and Macao.

Today, the HR/VP Federica Mogherini met with Ibrahim Ghandour, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan, in Brussels.
The meeting took place following the HR/VP's invitation to her Sudanese counterpart to visit Brussels. 
Both agreed to strengthen EU - Sudan relations in areas of shared interest. In this respect, Minister Ghandour also met EU Commissioner Avramopoulos, in charge of Migration, Home Affairs, and Citizenship, and is due to meet Commissioner for Humanitarian aid and crisis management, Christos Stylianides, tomorrow.

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met with Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati in Brussels today to discuss the excellent bilateral relations and the situation in the region.

The High Representative and the Minister discussed the important progress of Albania in advancing its bold reform agenda and the country's commitment to continue with the implementation of the reforms, especially in the priority areas such as justice.



The Cooperation Council reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation. There was a review of achievements from 2015, notably in development cooperation. EU has granted the Kyrgyz Republic EUR 34.6 million to that regard.
