Santo Domingo, 9 de mayo de 2016 – El impacto de los desastres naturales va en aumento a pesar de los esfuerzos de los países por reducirlo. En el último año, la sequía ha afectado a más de 6.2 millones de personas en el Caribe, especialmente en Haití, República Dominicana y Cuba.

On 27 May 2016, the Council adopted additional restrictive measures against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). These measures complement and reinforce the sanctions regime imposed by United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. 

On 26-27 May, the G7 leaders (the heads of state or government from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States as well as the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker) met in Ise-Shima, Japan to address major global economic and political challenges.



In Colombia for her first official visit as EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini met Government leaders, visited an EU-funded project for young people affected by conflict and signed EU-Colombia cooperation contracts on the environment, demining and the "Community Radios for Peace" project. One of her key messages was to convey the EU's solid support for peace talks between the Colombian Government and representatives of FARC to end decades of civil war.

On this day we celebrate the World Press Freedom Day. On the 25th anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration the EU wishes to recall the principle that "the establishment, maintenance and fostering of an independent, pluralistic and free press is essential to the development and maintenance of democracy in a nation, and for economic development".
