The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, was in Abuja on Saturday, 14 May, to attend the 2nd Regional Security Summit hosted by Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari.The Summit was a follow-up to the 2014 Boko Haram Summit, convened in Paris by French President Francois Hollande, who also attended the Abuja Summit.
High Representative Federica Mogherini called today on all parties in Syria to return to the negotiating table to work on the country's political transition. After a day of intense discussions in Vienna, the International Syria Support Group agreed a four-page joint statement underlining the international community's 'determination to strengthen the Cessation of Hostilities', 'to ensure full and sustained humanitarian access in Syria' and 'to ensure progress toward a peaceful political transition'.
Today marks the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT). The day represents an annual landmark to draw the attention of decision makers, the media, the public, opinion leaders and local authorities to the alarming situation faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms. It is also an opportunity to recognise the bravery of IDAHOT activists and allies around the world.
The EU Delegation in Bogota raised the rainbow flag alongside the EU's to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (17 May). In the words of Ambassador Zacarias: "It is a way of signalling our commitment towards LGBTI rights. It is also a tribute to all human rights defenders who have suffered or even died fighting for those rights".
On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the EU reiterates its strong commitment to the equality and dignity of all human beings irrespective of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
