Today, the European Commission presented to the Council draft negotiating frameworks for Albania and North Macedonia, laying out the guidelines and principles for their accession talks. The Commission was invited to submit these proposals in March 2020 by the General Affairs Council when it took the decision to open negotiations with both countries.

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The 12th Subcommittee meeting on Justice, Freedom and Security between the EU and Albania took place on 30 June and 1 July 2020. Representatives from the European Commission and the Albanian authorities discussed the most recent developments in the area of judicial reform, fundamental rights, anti-corruption, asylum and migration, money laundering, fight against organised crime, drug trafficking and counter-terrorism.
