Thank you very much. It is really a pleasure for me to be here today with you, Mr. State Councillor. It is not only a very important and fruitful meeting, but it also comes at a very timely moment.
 
We have a long history of relationship, 40 years is the time for maturity in a relationship. This means that we are ready to take stock of the achievements we have made, to face the differences - and sometimes also the difficulties- of a relationship, but also able to overcome them in a spirit of mutual cooperation.
 

The EU Political Director Helga Schmid and Iranian Deputy negotiators Abbas Araghchi and Madjid Takht Ravanchi will resume their work on 12 May in Vienna. They will then be joined by Political Directors of the E3+3 on 15 May.

In Vienna, the EU Political Director and Iranian Deputy negotiators will continue their work on the drafting of the main text of a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), based on the key understandings reached on 2 April in Lausanne and started last week in New York.

In view of reports about 'parliamentary elections' in Nagorno-Karabakh on 3 May, we reiterate that the European Union does not recognise the constitutional and legal framework within which they are being held. These procedures cannot prejudice the determination of the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh or impact on the negotiation process.
