The European Union has provided the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) with a grant of 4.1 million euro (US$4.5M) to continue supporting efforts to combat mosquito borne diseases in the Caribbean Region.

Evrópski fjárfestingasjóðurinn hefur undirritað samning við Byggðastofnun um bakábyrgðir að upphæð allt að 3,26 milljörðum króna vegna lána til lítilla og meðalstórra fyrirtækja.

Ábyrgðin er studd af „COSME“ áætlun Evrópusambandsins og mun gera Byggðastofnun kleift að auka enn frekar lánveitingar til viðkvæmra svæða.

Byggðastofnun mun bæta skilmála tiltekinna lánaflokka, auk þess að útbúa nýja, þar sem sérstök áhersla verður á umhverfisvernd, nýsköpun, frumkvöðlastarfsemi kvenna, unga bændur og sjávarútveg í viðkvæmum sjávarbyggðum.
