Le 10 avril 2010, l'Union européenne a lancé une mission de formation militaire en Somalie (EUTM Somalia), en vue de contribuer au renforcement du gouvernement fédéral de transition (GFT) et des institutions de ce pays. Ce soutien s'inscrit dans le cadre de l'action globale menée par l'Union européenne en Somalie pour aider à stabiliser le pays et répondre aux besoins de la population somalienne.

On 10 April 2010, the European Union launched a military training mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) in order to contribute to strengthening the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the institutions of Somalia. This support is part of the EU's comprehensive engagement in Somalia, which aims to support stabilising the country and to respond to the needs of the Somali people.

In a letter dated 8 October 2015, the Chef de l'État de la Transition of the Central African Republic (CAR), Mrs Catherine Samba-Panza, invited the European Union to further support the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) through a reinforced operational training structure in full collaboration with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
