Wednesday 9 March sees EU High Representative Federica Mogherini's first official visit to Argentina. She began her visit by laying a wreath at the monument of General San Martin with Argentine Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra. Later she held talks with President Mauricio Macri, Susana Malcorra as well as other members of the Argentine government. The purpose of her meeting with President Macri was to inject more energy into the EU-Argentine relationship.

In spite of much attention and many 8 of March events over the years, women and girls continue to suffer not just discrimination and violence, but also markedly from lower levels of political influence in every part of the world.
Federica Mogherini discussed developments in Syria with members of the European Parliament, during today's plenary session in Strasbourg. She highlighted that, although the war is still on, the first cessation of hostilities in five years is taking place, and humanitarian aid is being delivered to tens of thousands inside the country. The truce and the humanitarian relief can facilitate UN-led intra-Syrian peace negotiations, which are due to resume in Geneva in the coming days.
