On 5 October, the European Union and the government of Afghanistan will co-host the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan. This conference will gather up to 70 countries and 20 international organizations and agencies. It will provide a platform for the government of Afghanistan to set out its vision and track record on reform. For the international community, it will be the opportunity to signal sustained political and financial support to Afghan peace, state-building and development.
5 октября Европейский Союз и правительство Афганистана совместно проведут международную Конференцию по Афганистану в Брюсселе. В ней примут участие более 70 государств и 20 международных организаций и агентств. Конференция предоставит правительству Афганистана возможность представить свое видение и результаты реформ. Для международного сообщества эта конференция – возможность заявить об устойчивой политической и финансовой поддержке мира, государственного строительства и развития в Афганистане.
Representatives of Liberia and the European Union have met to review progress towards implementation of their Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA), which aims to ensure Liberia exports only legal timber products to the EU, supporting sustainable forestry and promoting trade. The Liberia-EU VPA Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) met for the 4th time on 21-23 September at the Monrovia City Hall. The JIC is the body established to oversee the implementation of the trade agreement between the EU and Liberia.
While we are working tirelessly to bring about a cessation of hostilities, today in the face of the humanitarian tragedy in Aleppo, we as the European Union are taking an urgent humanitarian initiative for Aleppo aimed at allowing humanitarian organisations to do their work and civilians to be rescued and protected.
In response to widespread flooding that has hit several parts of Myanmar since late July, the European Union (EU) is providing 200 000 EUR (more than 280,000,000 MMK) in humanitarian funding to assist the most affected communities.
